An employer’s responsibility when hiring new employees.
An evolving concern for employers is the need to comply with the employer sanctions and the verification provisions with the immigration law that require employers when they hire employees to fill out a form called an I-9 to confirm that that employee has documentation and the paperwork to work in the United States. It’s becoming increasingly more alarming for employers as they see Immigration stepping up enforcement to have their I-9 forms investigated and audited by Immigration. If an employer finds himself in a situation where he is not in compliance or is being investigated by Immigration for knowingly hiring illegal workers, it is very important that that employer seek legal representation by an attorney that understands immigration law and can understand the nuances in defending an employer against possible I-9 violations which may result in severe fines against the employer and in some states them losing any potential contracts with state or government agencies.
