What goes on in a consultation?
When somebody comes to my door or calls me on the phone, I need to isolate what type of case they think they may have, and they’re pretty good about telling me about that. The next thing I want to know is what type of injury they think they’ve suffered, and that can be a very complicated process, or it can be very straightforward. Many people are confused by the claims process. If it’s the type of case where they’ve had an opportunity to talk with the insurance company or the company that they think is responsible — a lot of times they’ve been given misinformation by the potential defendant in their case, so sometimes I have to fight through what information or misinformation they’ve had and try and redirect the client in a direction that I think is favorable to their — ultimately the value of their case and how they may be able to benefit from the pursuit of the claim and also to help them to try and manage their medical issues, which is a very common place that people kind of fall down as well.
