Protective orders are very important because, basically, they’re used for two reasons. One is to have the safety of the particular person that files it. You can file it through a private attorney, or can you file it through the assist- — through the district attorney’s office. Many times it’s used to have — to help someone in a divorce to — one, just to protect them, but two is to give them an advantage in the divorce to be able to show that there has been family violence.
